Story

I joined Ricardo in 2017 to take up the post of Lead AsBo (Assessment Body).

My role is to provide governance for the delivery of the accredited AsBo services that Ricardo provides. This includes keeping the AsBo manual up to date, providing training on how to deliver AsBo services, mentoring staff and technical oversight of AsBo services to some of our key projects.

More recently, I have been supporting the Crossrail (Elizabeth Line) project and it has been thrilling to see the new railway progress through an intense period of testing into passenger service. I was lucky enough to have the opportunity to participate in some of the testing activities (and appear very briefly in the BBC programme “The Billion Pound Railway” during the evacuation of a train)!

There is still work to do to support the final ramp up to full revenue service on the Elizabeth Line but I am also starting work on recently awarded Canadian projects. Canada has adopted a safety management approach similar to the widely used existing best practice in UK and EU, and have appointed Ricardo to provide a range of independent services to help them adopt these practices. I’ve been over to Toronto to deliver training courses and am providing independent safety advisory services to a number of projects.

The investment in rail in Canada is huge and so there are some great opportunities for Ricardo to make a real impact. It is exciting to be part of this new journey for Ricardo and for Canada.
